Ricardo Antunes has been an illustrator, graphic designer, editor, and cultural promoter for 43 years. He works with leading advertising agencies and publishers in the Brazilian and European markets, where he lived for 30 years. He was a professor at the Escola Panamericana de Arte (Panamericana School of Art), worked at Mauricio de Sousa's studio, and is the moderator of the largest illustration forum in Brazil, Ilustragrupo. He has received the HQMix award twice, one of the most important awards in the graphic arts field in Brazil, and the PROAC award from the Government of the State of São Paulo twice. He was a jury member for the 13th World Press Cartoon (Portugal), a jury member for the 10th Brazilian Biennial of Graphic Design (Brazil), and a jury member for the Pelikanor Award for Illustration and Design (Spain) three times, in 2023, 2024, and 2025. As an editor, he founded the Reference Press publishing house and published 27 books, producing and organizing launches and exhibitions. He is also the creator and editor of Ilustrar Magazine, the most important magazine dedicated to illustration in Brazil, where he interviewed more than 180 artists from 26 countries, and which also received the HQMix award. Due to its importance, Revista Ilustrar was used as teaching material at Unip - Universidade Paulista, Senac, University of Aveiro (Portugal), and FIT – Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, one of the most prestigious fine arts colleges in the city. In 2024, Ricardo Antunes became the official curator of the archive of illustrator and artist José Luiz Benicio.
